Turman Tackle
came into being during a trip to the Caribbean island of Jamaica. My wife, Sally, and I were lucky enough to find a nice rural area on the south coast that was mostly a fishing and farming community. Because I like to fish, I ended up spending several days down at the fishing beach getting to know the local fishermen. One man borrowed a few hootcheys and returned with torn up hands (they often use a hand-line with no rod) and some good yellowfin tuna stories. It didn’t take long for the rest of the fishermen to start asking about what kinds of fishing tackle are available up here in the States and whether it would be possible for us to “carry it down to them.” The following year we returned with some of the items that they had requested. Although the cost was higher then they were able to afford the need was definitely there. When we got back to Oregon that year, we looked around and found a supplier who had most of what was needed at a price that was affordable. This launched the official Turman Tackle.

It didn’t take long for us to realize that the Pacific Northwest also has a need for reasonably priced fishing tackle so when we ordered, we purchased items that we could wholesale to shops along the coast of Oregon, Washington and California as well. With the high gas prices and our dislike of being on the highway, we have now opened a retail store in Reedsport Oregon. From here we sell both to the public locally and ship orders to our wholesale customers. With this web site we hope to be able to reach out to the people who are unable to visit us here in Reedsport.
